Things to Do in Chicago: A Windy City Bucketlist

Trying to compile a complete Chicago bucket list is no easy endeavour thanks to the unlimited amount of adventures that Chicago has to offer. Being I've visited Chicago more times than I can count, here are some of the essential experiences every city-lover must do while in Chicago.

1. Navy Pier

 One of the most popular tourist destinations in Chicago, Navy Pier offers a variety of unique restaurants and bars, souvenir shops, and the world famous Ferris wheel that was debuted at the World’s Fair in 1893. Whether you rent a Segway for sightseeing or stop at Bubba Gumps, Navy Pier does not disappoint.

2. Shedd Aquarium

    Shedd Aquarium welcomes 2 million guests annually for unforgettable encounters with 32,000 animals from the world’s aquatic environments. Shedd is one of the most iconic tourist destinations in Chicago and offers a variety of Beluga Whale water shows, as well as interactive exhibits

3. The Bean

  Also known as, "Cloud Gate," the bean is a public sculpture by Indian-born British artist Sir Anish Kapoor, that is the centerpiece of AT&T Plaza at Millennium Park in the Loop. The bean is made of steel plates that project a liquid mercury appearance; the bean weighs in at over 110 tons and attracts (tons) of people everyday.

4. The Purple Pig

     The Purple Pig offers a variety of adventurous small plate options, house-cured meats, and a length wine list with over 500 different options. If you're looking for something truly unique with a homey/lively feel, The Purple Pig is a must dining option.

5. Greektown

    Now a commercial district , Greektown is culturally rich with remains integral to the neighborhood. Lively Greek taverns include Athena, Santorini, and Pegasus; only to name a few. In April, the Hellenic Heritage Parade celebrates Greek Independence Day. Greektown is rich in heritage and entertaining in both nightlife and scenery.

6. Giordano's Pizza

     With 4 Chicago locations, Giordano’s has earned its fair share of headlines; both in Chicago and nationally. Title such as, “Best Pizza” and "Chicago's Best Pizza" has been awarded byh NBC, CBS Chicago, The Chicago Tribune, and more!

7.  Sephora (Flagship Store)

   CALLING ALL MAKEUP LOVERS! This shopping stop is an absolute must. 
Being a flagship store, this locations carries all brands carried in-store and online, and is one of the most luxurious and well-known Sephora locations in the country. Bring your credit card for this one...

8. Willis Tower

    The Willis Tower, commonly known as the Sears Tower, is a 110-story skyscraper. Attracting over 1 million guests annually, Skydeck Chicago is a popular experience that allows visitors to step out on a glass window, 1,450 feet in the air! The Willis Tower is located off of S Wacker Drive in Downtown Chicago.

9. Chicago Theatre

   The Chicago Theatre, originally known as the Balaban and Katz Chicago Theatre, is a landmark theater located on North State Street in the Loop. The Chicago Theatre is a beautiful venue and is a must for concert and show lovers.

10. Art Institute of Chicago

    The Art Institute of Chicago was founded in 1879 and is located in Chicago's Grant Park. The institute is one of the oldest and largest art museums in the United States and welcomes over 1.5 million guests annually. Its collection includes iconic works such as Georges Seurat's A Sunday on La Grande Jatte, Pablo Picasso's The Old Guitarist, Edward Hopper's Nighthawks, and Grant Wood's American Gothic. The institute is home to almost  300,000 works of art and introduces more than 30 special exhibitions yearly.

11. Dylan’s Candy Bar

    With over 7,000 confections to indulge in, Dylan's Candy Bar is a two story location that offers novelty candy, bulk candy, nostalgia candy and, and even sweet boozy drinks! Stop by this iconic location on Michigan Ave near the river.

12. Sugar Factory- River North

    Sugar Factory American Brasserie is a treat for all guests that offers a one-of-a-kind dining experience, serving decadent and tasty fare to satisfy even your deepest sweet-tooth! Sugar Factory also offers decadent adult beverages, including Sugar Factory’s signature 36-ounce alcohol-infused smoking candy goblets, all of which are available without alcohol (but what fun is that?)

13. The Alibi Room

   Live like Frank Gallagher for the day and enjoy a brew at Shameless' own, The Alibi Room. Located at 6900 Shameless Ave in Chicago, only true Shameless fans can appreciate this one-of-a-kind experience!
